Financial Controller

The Financial Controller manages the company’s accounting and finance, oversees cash flow, progress billing, contract holdbacks, and legal and tax obligations (CCQ, CNESST, GST/QST, payroll remittances), and supports management in operational and financial decision‑making.

Primary responsibilities

  • Accounting and finance

    • Full cycle bookkeeping: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
    • Prepare financial statements.
    • Produce tax filings (GST/QST).
    • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.

  • Project management

    • Project analysis: actuals vs budgets, margins, and provisions.
    • Track work in progress (WIP).
    • Follow up on payments and contract holdbacks.
    • Oversee vendor payments.

  • Closing and audits

    • Participate in month‑end and year‑end close.
    • Prepare files for external audits.

  • Process improvement

    • Implement internal procedures and controls.
    • Automate tracking tools (Excel, ERP).

  • Communication

    • Collaborate with management on financial decision‑making.
    • Supervise the company’s administrative department (accounting, payroll, general administration).

Skills and aptitudes

  • Strong command of accounting and tax principles.
  • Knowledge of construction practices (holdbacks, progress billing).
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Proficiency with office tools (advanced Excel) and ERP systems (Maestro is an asset).
  • Rigour, autonomy, and strong organizational skills.

Education and experience

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent.
  • Professional designation (CPA) is considered an asset.
  • 3–6 years of experience in financial controlling, ideally in construction or a project‑based environment.
