Sheet Metal Worker

The sheet metal worker assembles and installs sheet‑metal components for ventilation systems and works mainly on construction sites.

Primary responsibilities

  • Assemble ventilation systems.
  • Use hand and power tools such as shears, impact drivers, and mechanical saws.
  • Suspend, place, and secure sheet‑metal components on construction sites (supports, ducts, ventilation, air conditioning, heating).
  • Seal ventilation ducts with the appropriate product.
  • Ensure installations comply with safety standards.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Skills and aptitudes

  • Strong knowledge of installation methods and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans.
  • Manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail.
  • Adhere to health and safety rules (working at heights, handling tools).
  • Experience fabricating parts in the shop (“fabbage”) is a strong asset.

Education and experience

  • DVS in Sheet‑Metal Work (DEP) or equivalent.
  • Apprentice or journeyperson competency certificate (CCQ in Québec).
  • ASP Construction card required to work on construction sites.
